Advice for leaving my family for 6 months to C-school?

I've done 3 deployments before, now I'm finishing 4 years of shore duty. My two kids, 5 %26amp; 3 years old, never knew me going on deployment. I'm going to NS San Diego 32nd St for a 6-month C-school. My family can't come because our house hasn't sold here in Texas, so they're staying here. So far our plans are to get another laptop for my wife, I'm taking mine with me, and we're going to get webcams so when I'm talking to the kids, they can see me too. My wife found some good advice online to get Hershey Kisses, enough for each child to have one on each day that I'm gone. We'll get a map to show them where I'm at also. On my last deployment, my son wasn't born and my daughter (now 5) turned 1 when I returned. So they've never delt with it. Any ideas or advice anybody has would be appreciated.Advice for leaving my family for 6 months to C-school?
Do you have access to a video recorder? Make a movie of you reading the kids favorite stories that they can watch. You can find an item that would be a ';special'; one... have three... or four... one you take with you and that each of the kids can have to keep with them. Then each time they think of you they can touch that and know you have one with you. Kind of a connection that helps some kids. Maybe pick up a couple journals or books that you can send back and forth. I know they are young, but they can draw pictures and send it to you, then you can draw a picture or write a few words their mom can read to them or something. Maybe have them pick out some postcards that you take with you and send to them. If you have time... the military.com boards have people with lots of ideas as well. These are just ones we have done. I know there are lots of other good ideas out there.Advice for leaving my family for 6 months to C-school?
You do know this could happen joining the military especially the Navy ...whats 6 months??
take full advantage of the program 32nd street has for reading books on video. also, see about the Sesame street DVD( avaialable from your Ombudsman or FFSC)
Um..I have only seen my husband 2.5 months out of the last 2 years. 6 Months will go by fast. We also Webcam but he is forward deployed out of ASSEB japan so he is not in port much and is in river city frequently. making email a no. and I have only ever gotten 2 calls off the ship. So we got married and there's no housing available so I have seen him 1 month out of the 1st year fo us being married. If she is staying busy then all should be well. If y'all cant do it like that have her rent the house out in texas and get them moved with you to sd. Contract with the military to rent the house out. there is always families looking for actual houses rather than apartments. And if y'all don't wanna rent the house out..every 3 weeks fly there. Best advice I can give you. I guess it also depends on where you will be stationed after C school as well.
start writting letters now for everyday you will be gone adn they can read them...one new one each day even if some arent long just put how much u love and miss them
