Holiday Advice: Tips for dealing with family you just can't make yourself like?

Everyone's got at least one. One person, be it a sibling, aunt, uncle, sister-in-law, motherinlaw, brother's girlfriend.... You have to deal with this person. They are part of your family and will be unless you decide not to be part of the family anymore or die. They have rubbed you the wrong way since you met them. Everything they do and say makes your fists clench and your teeth grind.

How do you handle being around this person (say, at holiday get-togethers, birthday parties, etc) without blowing a fuse?Holiday Advice: Tips for dealing with family you just can't make yourself like?
I recommend that you find something about this person that you can admire. At first the admiration will not feel honest. Everytime you think of this person or are in their presence think about what you admire about them. After a time it will be come honest admiration. It only takes one small thing even if the thing you admire is their ability to annoy you. It will make being in this person's presence easier and less offensive.Holiday Advice: Tips for dealing with family you just can't make yourself like?
just try to keep your distance. be polite when they talk to you if they do, and if and when they say something that doesn't sit right, close your eyes and pray for strength! it hard to deal with these people, and its even harder knowing they will always be there, but just remember that one day these trials and tribulations will no longer matter! good luck! we've all been there.
I have more than one I have about twenty in my family but heres what I do, I sit there, eat, and put a happy face on. To be able to do that is hard and I know but you have to ignore the person and say to yourself that it is not worth it to argue with them. Another thing I do is bring something that will keep me occupied whether it is an IPod, Sketchbook, or even a cell phone to talk or text people who I actually like, this will keep you from wanting to kill the person because you won't have to pay attention to them.
