I am buying a hdtv for the family room. 32'; big enough?advice would be appreciated?

I am about to buy a tv for my family because i got a bonus and was wondering if i should get a 32'; or a 37'; for the family room. The room isn't too large and the couch is about 8-9ft from the tv. I was thinking of getting this one Samsung-LN37A450-37-Inch-720p

But I'm not sure if I will regret getting the 450 model instead of the new 550

Samsung-LN37A550

Which is 1080p while the 450 is only 720p

Should i just pay more for the newer model since it offers a higher resolution? Informed advice would be greatly appreciated. :)

note: They are both reviewed on amazon.com but the url was too long to post I am buying a hdtv for the family room. 32'; big enough?advice would be appreciated?
For optimal viewing size, you are on the right track checking distance to the screen. Put your measurements in here:

From personal experience,I'd say a 42'; to 46'; is right, and 37'; is borderline too small. I have a 50'; at 9.75 feet and I wish I could get a foot or two back for better viewing.

In 37';, 42';, or 46';, IMHO your very best bet, dollar for dollar, for BOTH the best performance and reliability, is the Panasonic Viera plasma! If, however, you for some reason need an LCD, the best brand for 37'; and up, again BOTH for performance and reliability, is Sony followed by Toshiba and then Sharp and Samsung. het atleast 37'; of add few buck more to get 40 but 37 shoulb be fine and make sure u read reviews before u buy a tv and features that u are going to need
You should get a 42'; at least.
I would go for the 37'; TV, That extra 5'; makes a lot of difference.

Go with the 1080 as this is the best result for HDTV.

An check the contrast ratio 1000-1 is the best. Makesure it also features digital tv (For the swich over!) and check out reviews of it online by goggling the model number.

There are only 4 manufacturers out there who acutally make TV's Panasonic, Sony, Samsung cant remember the other, but all other TV have chinese parts inside them and you are just paying for the brand name/out box shell. Some TVS do have the samsung panels inside them like DMTECH which is made in the same factory as the LG/Samsung tvs. so if you want cheap and qaulity you could even go with that!

Good luck choosing
